(Ara m. boliviana) Also known as: Bolivian Green Macaw Average length 27-1/2"

Native to Southwest Bolivia and most Northwesterly parts of Argentina in provinces of Salta and Jujuy. They live in and around tropical forest areas and partially cleared areas, open country with trees or trees along water ways. They seem to prefer dry or semi-dry forest to 8,300 ft instead of humid areas and rainforests.
They are considered endangered by some. The main causes are attributed to trapping for trade and habitat loss.
They are quick to learn, curious, fun loving parrots. They enjoy open perches, playing with their toys, cuddling, climbing high, bathing, traveling where ever you go and lots of good fruit and veggies to snack on between meals.

These parrots wean at about 3 1/2 to 4 months old

Miligold Macaw

Miligold Macaw

Miligold Macaws, a cross between a Blue and Gold Macaw and a Military Macaw, have a very pleasing coloration. These large birds are typical of the Central and South America where they inhabit palm groves and scrublands. This species is one of the best-known family pets because of its gentle and even temperament and beautiful plumage.

What Do They Eat?

Macaws require extra fat in their diet all of their lives. Small daily quantities of walnuts, pine-nuts, peanuts, pistachios and brazils will provide that.

Plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, in addition to seed mixes of sunflower, oats, and various millets are required daily. They also love sprouted seeds.

I leave a small tray of moist shavings under their feeders. Whole seeds they drop can sprout for their enjoyment. Just be sure to keep it clean and fresh.

Regular mineral supplements are recommended. Some brands furnish seed soaked in vitamins and minerals with their mix. You can recognize them by their pink and/or blue coloring aside from the labeling.
